American world heavyweight boxing champion and social activist, widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century.

Biography

Muhammad Ali (1942–2016), born Cassius Clay, was an American heavyweight boxer who won the world title three times. Known for his speed, footwork, and showmanship, he was also a prominent voice of the civil-rights era — most notably refusing induction into the U.S. military in 1967, a stand that cost him his title and nearly four years of his career before the Supreme Court overturned his conviction in 1971.
